- The CWLS is a part of the East Godavari River Estuarine Ecosystem (EGREE) Region, which is notable as a constituent of the Central Asian Flyway.
East Godavari River Estuarine Ecosystem:
- The EGREE region is one of the important bird areas with a recorded population of 271 bird species, of which 95 are migratory. According to records, the region regularly supports over 1% of bio-geographical population belonging to 17 water bird species. “The area has a rich and diverse bird population. For example, of the 84 species of waders reported from India, 51 are found in the EGREE region.
- Coringa hosts many endangered and migratory bird species like the Great knot that visits the region from Russia and Central China during the migratory season.
- Indian Skimmer’ has been selected as the mascot of the festival.
- The presence of Waders in the region is a good indicator of the effective food supply and healthy status of the wetland.
