• The project “Access to Justice for the marginalised” is being implemented in eight States of Bihar, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

Objective:

• The key objective of the project is strengthening access to justice for the marginalised (particularly the poor, women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and minorities), by developing strategies that address barriers to accessing justice in legal, social, economic and political domains.
• The project interventions seek to empower the poor and marginalized sections of the society with knowledge on their legal rights and means to claim them, by raising legal literacy amongst them. 
• The project also aims to improve justice delivery mechanisms by strengthening their capacities and increasing their engagement and communication process with the vulnerable groups.
• Phase I of the project was undertaken between 2009 and 2012.
• The current phase, Phase II is for a five-year period between May 2013 and December 2017.
• Over the course of the two phases, the project has developed a repository of knowledge products and information, education and communication materials (IEC materials) which present relevant social welfare legislations in a simplified and accurate formats, suitable and useful for the public at large.
• The core aim of this material is to impart legal literacy in simple, easy and accurate language.
