Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC)

Description “Launched in 2015 at COP21 in Paris, the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), is a voluntary partnership of national and sub-national governments, businesses, and civil society organizations that agree to expand the use of effective carbon pricing policies that can maintain competitiveness, create jobs, encourage innovation, and deliver meaningful emissions reductions.”
Goals “CPLC is a voluntary partnership of national and sub-national governments, businesses, and civil society organizations that agree to advance the carbon pricing agenda by working with each other towards the long-term objective of a carbon price applied throughout the global economy by:• Strengthening carbon pricing policies to redirect investment commensurate with the scale of the climate challenge

• Bringing forward and strengthen the implementation of existing carbon pricing policies to better manage investment risks and opportunities

• Enhancing cooperation to share information, expertise, and lessons learnt on developing and implementing carbon pricing programs through various “readiness” platforms”

The World Bank Group announced a new Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition on September 22, the eve of the UN Climate Summit. 73 national and 11 regional governments responsible for 54 % of global greenhouse gas emissions, as well as more than 1,000 companies and investors, have expressed their support for putting a price on carbon.
